Diagnosing path bottlenecks


TCP can independently measure all model parameters:


Does the model agree with the actual performance?
If not, it suggests a TCP or instrumentation failure

Do all parameters agree with expected values?
Excessive RTT suggests incorrect routing
Excessive loss suggests flaky network gear
Excessive RTT or loss also suggest congestion
Wrong MSS suggests a problem with MTU discovery
